This page provides information for Web Masters and Web Surfers for educational purposes. You may be breaking the terms of service of your provider or hosting service by disabling javascript.

For Web Masters- this simple script usually works on the free hosting services such as Tripod and Geocities, but not always. Just add this to your HTML, within the head tags:

<Script>some thing here such as the title of your website</Script>

so it should look like this:

<HEAD>

<Script>

some thing here such as the title of your website.

</Script>

</head>

For Web Surfers- In all cases, you are simply turning off Java Script, which is the programing language your browser needs to read to "create" a pop-up console, or window on your desktop. To turn Java Script back on, just go back and make the change again.

For AOL users:
Click on Members, Click on Preferences, Click on WWW, Click Tab that says Security, uncheck what you don't want under active controls at the bottom of the security tab... that would be JavaScript. You can leave Java and ActiveX on if you like.

For Netscape: 3.0, 3.1 etc.
Click on Options, then Network Preferences, then Languages, then find the box titled Java Script and disable the Java Script by clicking on the check in the box so that the check mark goes away. Then, click OK. If you are using Netscape, and you want to keep javascript on, and kill consoles as soon as they pop up, you can hit control-W or Alt-F4 to kill them.

For Netscape Communicator: 4.0, etc.
Click on Edit, then Preferences, then Advanced (the word, not the plus or minus sign next to it), then find the box titled Java Script and disable the Java Script by clicking on the check in the box so that the check mark goes away. Then, click OK. If you are using Netscape, and you want to keep javascript on, and kill consoles as soon as they pop up, you can hit control-W or Alt-F4 to kill them.

For Internet Explorer Versions Less Than 4.0
Click on View, then Options, then Security, Toggle off "Run ActiveX Scripts" in the Active Content section, then click "apply" and OK.

For Internet Explorer Version 4.0
Go to the View menu, select Options, select security, select custom (for expert users), push the Settings... button, scroll down to Active scripting, and select Disable.

Use your browsers back button to return to the previous page.

Feel free to link directly to this site if you have a web page with a java script pop up window, or if you just want to convey this information to others.
